It is absolutely sickening when I hear a liberal call Iraq another Vietnam. The next time you hear this you should ask the lib if he mean Iraq is another Vietnam because our military is completely annihilating the enemy or if Iraq is like Vietnam because the democrats are completely betraying us. Granted we haven't yet seen the levels of betrayal that we saw during the era of the worst generation, but with this new congress we may soon see such conditions.
In Vietnam you cannot deny that the American military was winning the way. In the first half of the year over 100,000 communists were killed(nearly twice the amount lost by the Americans during the ENTIRE war). At the siege of Khe Sanh 15,000 communists were killed while 650 Americans were lost. During the Tet Offensive 45,000 of 85,000 Viet Cong were killed, and the VC were eliminated as a military threat. And yet the American people were told a lie, a lie that said we could not win. Even when we left Vietnam the South still could have won, in a sort of second Tet Offensive another 100,000 NVA were killed 25,000 ARVN, but because of the Democrat Congress 1.6-3.6 million were murdered in Vietnam, 2.6-3.8 million murdered in Cambodia, and 56,000-70,000 in Laos.
When the anticommunist government took control of Cambodia and asked us to stop the NVA and VC from overrunning their country the Democrat Congress limited it to 1 operation 20 miles across the border and lasting for only 2 months. The first major betrayal by the Democrats to innocent people fighting for their lives. Nixon was severely attacked for this operation(this operation asked for by the Cambodians to save their lives). Every military engagement had strict constraints placed on it by Democrats(Congressional and Pres. Johnson) This was the second major betrayal by Democrats, this one against our own military, effectively increasing their casualty rates. After Americans pulled out of Vietnam and left the job to the ARVN the US had agreed to support the South if the North invaded(as they had agreed not to under the treaty signed in Paris). But when the North did invade the South in 1975 the Democrats refused to give any support(even knowing that war could have been won, the South was achieving a kill rate of 4 to 1). This was the third and final major betrayal leaving those in the South to be killed by the Communists. This also started the dominos as Cambodia, Laos, South Vietnam, some parts of Africa, Ethiopia Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran, Nicaragua, and El Salvador either fell to communism or were threatened by it. All this while Democrats (Carter and the Congress) stood by.
In Iraq it looks like more of the same is happening, the Democrats have taken congress, and continue to put forth idiotic arguments, while the military wins the war. If they would like to say that the current Iraqi government is not going to work because the Iraqis are not civilized enough, and the muslim religion is too violent, then at least that would show intelligence. But to say we can't win the war(we can with an all out attack on the Islamo-fascists) and we need to pull out immediately shows no understanding of history and no regard for humanity. "Bring the troops home now" protesters have no respect for the troops, no respect for the Iraqis and no value for human life.
